Supply Chain

Buying, making and moving stock from one set of records.

Odoo's supply chain apps cover what you buy, what you make, where it is stored and when it ships. Inventory, Manufacturing, Purchase, PLM, Quality and Maintenance read the same stock and order records, so a sales order can trigger a purchase or a production run without anyone re-entering it.

Odoo's Manufacturing page describes the app as bringing MRP, MES, PLM, Quality, Shop Floor and Maintenance onto one platform.

What it does

Stock you can trust, and a plan to keep it that way.

Stockouts, overbuying and lost traceability usually come from the same cause: stock, purchasing and production kept in different places. Odoo's supply chain apps keep them in one.

01Replenishment that reacts
Reordering rules (min-max, make-to-order or the master production schedule) propose, or automatically create, purchase orders, and vendor follow-ups can be automated.
02Move stock with fewer touches
Push and pull rules, custom routes and put-away strategies such as ABC analysis and cross-docking reduce the distance goods travel.
03Pick and pack your way
Single, wave, cluster and batch picking, several reservation strategies and carrier integrations that print shipping labels.
04Plan and run production
Simulate manufacturing orders with live capacity planning, schedule them in a Gantt chart, and record production from a barcode app or a shop floor tablet.
05Trace every lot
Track components, lots and serial numbers upstream and downstream, with real-time reports on stock, moves and production.
06Check quality and keep machines running
Quality checks run inside manufacturing and stock operations, and maintenance plans prevent breakdowns instead of reacting to them.

A warehouse system that works with the whole business

Real-time stock, routes, barcodes and valuation.

  • Replenish with min-max rules, make-to-order or the master production schedule, and let Odoo propose or trigger purchase orders.
  • Control receipts and shipments with push and pull rules, GS1 codes and customisable routes; put-away strategies include slow-fast movers, ABC analysis and cross-docking.
  • Manage serial numbers, lots, packaging and reservation strategies, with cycle counting and KPIs across several warehouses or companies.
  • Pick by single, cluster, wave or batch, and pack into parts, boxes or pallets; carrier integrations print shipping labels.
  • A barcode scanner works offline with barcodes, QR codes and GS1, even for products without barcodes.
  • Value stock perpetually or periodically using FIFO, average price, LIFO or standard price.
  • Odoo 20 adds a prefilled CMR document from deliveries, improved intercompany flows and a stock report that can show inventory at any past date.
What you’re looking at

Routes, not spreadsheets

A route says where goods go and what happens at each step, so a receipt can flow into storage, picking and shipping without anyone re-planning it.

A worked example

A customer order that has to be made.

One order followed through the apps, built from what Odoo's pages say each one does. It is an illustration, not a promise of any particular set-up.

  1. Order confirmedA sales order creates demand for a made-to-order product.
  2. Parts checkedComponents are reserved, and any shortage drafts a purchase order.
  3. Production runsA manufacturing order is scheduled and worked on the shop floor.
  4. Quality checkedA check on the order records the result, and a failure raises an alert.
  5. Goods shipThe finished product is picked, packed and shipped with its lot traced.

Illustrative. A real project decides which products are made to order, which are made to stock and who approves each step.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does Odoo track lots and serial numbers?

Yes. Inventory manages serial numbers and lots, and Manufacturing traces components, lots and serial numbers upstream and downstream. Odoo 20 adds bulk generation of lots and serial numbers.

Which stock valuation methods does it support?

Odoo's Inventory page lists perpetual or periodic valuation using FIFO, average price, LIFO or standard price.

Can workers use tablets and phones on the shop floor?

Yes. The Shop Floor app gives workers a tablet dashboard, and a mobile barcode app records production and components and works offline.

Can it subcontract production?

Odoo's Manufacturing page lists subcontracting among the ways to replenish, alongside making, buying and delivering from another warehouse.

Do the IoT devices cost extra?

The IoT app uses an IoT Box with its own subscription, which Odoo's IoT page prices separately from the apps. Confirm current terms with Odoo.

Do I need every app?

No. Each app works on its own, and they share records when you add more. Odoo's pricing page says you can start with any app.
